Many corporations waste people's time by posting jobs to their corporate websites that don't actually exist and are just used to gather resumes in case there is a future need. These job listings go unfilled for many months if not years and are periodically recycled, sometimes given a new reference number, sometimes not.

I know both Booz Allen and Ernst & Young are terrible about this. If you spent 2-3 hours one day making a profile and searching jobs on their sites, then you completely wasted time that could have been spent applying to real jobs. Total drag on the economy.
